This is a great hostel. I visited 11 countries in Europe and this was the friendliest staff anywhere.

We arrived in Veliko Turnovo for the first time during a very mild and sunny October. Having never been to the town before we had no idea how to go about finding Hostel Pashov. However, we needn’t have worried. The owner of the hostel offers a free pick up service from any of the train / bus stations in the town. So, after a quick phone call to the hostel alerting them to our imminent arrival we got off the bus to find the owner waiting for us there.

Five or ten minutes later we had the pleasure of observing a native Bulgarian expertly manouvre a 4 x 4 down some of the narrowest and steepest hills we’ve ever seen. Despite a few concerned looks between the two of us as we crept down almost vertical cobbled streets we arrived at Hostel Pashov safe and sound.

The beauty and charm of the surrounding area was immediately apparent. The historic town of Veliko Turnovo was built on the steep banks of the river Yantra and the charming houses that rise up from the valley seem to be balanced precariuosly on top of one another. Half way up the impressive gorge is Hostel Pashov, constructed in the 19th century and now faithfully restored to its former glory by the current owners. The hostel is set almost in the rock face with a set of traditional stone steps leading up to the first floor. On reaching the first floor we arrived in a quaint outdoor terrace area from which we could sit and watch the world go by over the coming week. Our double room led straight out onto the terrace. We were extremely pleased with our accommodation. Not only were we surrounded by traditional stone walls and restored beams and staircases but we also had all the modern conveniences one could possibly need whilst on holiday. There was a small kitchenette adjoining the bedroom which consisted of a coffee machine, fridge and microwave. We also had our own en suite bathroom which had both a bath and shower. In the bedroom area we had a wardrobe, tv and WiFi availabilty. And of course a bed. I’d like to add that the bed was comfortable but I fear that many people might disagree. The matresses were quite hard which is fairly typical for Bulgaria. Good for the back but not exactly the most luxurious sleeping environment. However, with so many beautiful features the bed became a non-issue altogether.

On exploring the area around the hostel we were fascinated to learn what an enchanting area we were staying in. Just next to the hostel is the famous Gurko Street, one of the most romantic and unique streets in the town. Tourists flock to the area to soak in the medieval atmosphere and glimpse all the beautifully restored houses there.

All in all Hostel Pashov is not only a fabulous place to stay but also gives you the chance to personally sample a valuable piece of the historical nature of this stunning town.

The care and pride taken in this property, and in hosting travellers is exceptional. Felt very at home, safe, comfortable, looked after and welcome. We stayed in a double room opening to a lovely little garden terrace overlooking Gurko street - very atmospheric and enchanting location, especially to sit in the warm evenings absorbing all the lights and sounds of old Veliko Turnovo! Wonderful host provided perfect combination of helpfulness and privacy. Would love to stay again.
VERY HAPPY WE DECIDED TO STAY HERE, THERE WERE 4 OF US BOOKED TWO DOUBLE ROOMS EACH WITH ENSUITE, ONE HAD BATH AND SHOWER. THE ROOMS WERE PERFECT EACH HAD AN AREA TO PREPARE FOOD, ONE HAD A MICROWAVE ALSO AND BOTH HAD A KITCHEN SINK. THERE WAS A COFFEE MACHINE IN EACH WITH LOVELY COFFEE SUPPLIED.
BOTH EVEN HAD A FRIDGE. SO YOU COULD USE THE HANDY SHOP ACROSS THE STREET AND MAKE YOUR OWN SNACKS. THERE WAS A LITTLE WOODEN BALCONY ATTATCHED WHICH WAS LOVELY TO SIT AND CHILL OUT. VERY QUIET STREET IN THE OLD PART OF THE TOWN. LOCATION WAS GOOD AS EVERYTHING WAS WALKING DISTANCE. IT WAS A BIT HARD TO FIND AT FIRST AS THE STREET ITS ON IS QUITE NARROW AND WITH A CAR YOU THINK YOU CANT GO UP THERE, HOWEVER THE OWNER STOOD OUT SIDE TO MAKE SURE WE FOUND IT AND TOLD US TO PARK JUST OUTSIDE.
VERY NICE OWNER, SPOKE SOME ENGLISH AND MADE SURE WE HAD EVERYTHING AND ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GIVEN.
NICE AND CLEAN ROOMS, LINEN PROVIDED. HAD TV AND AIRCON. WOULD DEFINATELY STAY THERE AGAIN, GOOD VALUE AT SUCH A REASONABLE PRICE. JUST WISH WE HAD STAYED LONGER.
Excellent service! They picked us up at the train station, dropped us at the bus station when we were leaving and Lazar even helped us buy our bus tickets. The location is perfect, right were you'll want to be in old town, it's close to everything. We had our own room with tv, espresso machine, small kitchen and bathroom.
rooms are in a private house but you have independente entrance to your room, nice terrace with some tables, it is located in real old town on the small quiet street, walking distance to the main places, minus is no real shower but just you have a shower on the floor so it is all wet afterwords
We had a perfect stay at this hostel! It is located in the heart of the old town, the terrace offered an amazing view and inside everything was charming (and very clean). The owners are very kind and helpful. I'd definitely choose this place next time when in Veliko Tarnovo.
amazing little place, affordable and comfortable. the owner was very helpful and flexible. main sights and city centre are close by. it\'s a beautiful guesthouse, and our room was airy and clean. you can even make your own coffee :)
The owner is very friendly and helpful. Our room had a balcony in front of a very beautiful and romantic street..
Great value for a great room. Lazar and his wife were beyond helpful!
The hostel is not so easy to find if you dont have a map. All the facilities were very clean and the relationship quality / price is excellent. Also a big plus for the owner who does his best to guarantee your satisfaction.
The pick up service is excellent, Mr. Pashov and his wife are very nice people. The view from the Hostel is wonderful, the rooms are clean, very comfortable, You don't really need to pay for extra breakfast, in front of the hostel there is a small shop, you can buy everything there, besides in Bulgaria the typical breakfast are the Banitzas which are cheap and you can find them everywhere.
This hostel was brilliant. It was right in the old town, walking distance from everything you'd want to see. The owner picked us up and dropped us off for free (otherwise we might never have found it the first time!). The rooms were beautiful and the area the hostel is in was gorgeous. Very highly recommended!
This was not really a hostel, it was better. large bathroom, double bed, wardrobe and a small kitchenette with a sink, fridge. It was very good value and the owener is very friendly and will come and meet you. It is a little hard to find the first time but as he meets you that is no problem. Breakfast isn't included but there is a small shop literally across the road so no problem. Very clean and private. Recommended!
One of the greatest hotels in the world.
Very highly recommended! Great location, brand new, spotlessly clean, and friendly host!
great hostel overall. great location and staff. the owner is very helpful, he picked us up from the train station on our arrival and even gave us a lift to the bus station at our departure.
This place is great! Close to everything, clean, big, nice, cheap. nothing bad to report.
The owners are lovely and the views were fantastic. The hostel had everything we needed including wireless, which we need for our business. Our 3 key points on judging a hotel/hotel are: Bed, Shower and breakfast. The bed was very lovely and firm, the shower was powerful and easy to control. As for breakfast we could have anything we wanted as we were the cooks. We will be back next year for sure. Paula & Wyn
